24 months. That’s how much time our teams needed to complete the REM planning phase, including the financing structure, procurement and technical studies.

Key dates

In 2015, the following two projects were submitted by the Québec government for analysis by CDPQ Infra:

• A public transit system on the new Champlain Bridge

• A public transit system linking downtown Montréal to Montréal-Trudeau Airport and the West Island

CDPQ Infra proposed merging the two projects to form an integrated 67-km network. The project was officially announced in April 2016, and the initial work began in April 2018.

Studies

So as to ensure the project submitted to the government is fair, comprehensive and thorough, the project management team studies the options using a proven methodology.

• Firstly, all user transit corridors between origin and destination points were examined in detail.
• The team then focused on a multi-criteria evaluation of the identified corridors.
• Lastly, the selected routes were reviewed in detail in order to come to a conclusion regarding the project’s technical feasibility, potential for improving the mobility offer, economic viability, and social and environmental acceptability.
